Do This When You Feel Triggered

emotions feeling triggered mental health self-control well-being Dec 20, 2023

Hey Friends,

Sometimes feeling upset is a normal emotional response, but…that does not mean you have to respond in the heat of the moment.

When you feel triggered, try the following things:

  1. Take a pause and a deep breath 🛑🌬️: In the heat of the moment, it's easy to let our emotions run wild. But before you unleash the emotional Kraken, pause and take a deep breath. This simple act can provide much-needed clarity.
  2. Do not react straight away 🚦🕰️: The best decisions are rarely made in the heat of the moment. Give yourself some space and time to cool down before taking any action. Trust me, your future self will thank you. 😉
  3. Refrain from giving meaning to someone else's actions 🚫🧠: We often assume we know what's going on in someone else's mind, but the reality is, we don't. So, rather than assigning meaning or intent to their actions, focus on understanding your own reactions.
  4. Choose between possible responses and respond calmly 🧘🗨️: Now that you've taken a step back and analyzed the situation, carefully consider your options and choose a response that aligns with your values and goals. Speak calmly and authentically, and remember that kindness goes a long way.

By doing all this, you get back your sense of control, and you’ll be better equipped to deal with stressful situations.
